New Welcome Center

Construction is finished on the new welcome center. The design of the new center is more visually appealing than the previous structure built in 1965 and provides an expanded, more inviting view of front campus to the nearly 30,000 people who drive by the front entrance each day.

The new center is a two-part structure, providing controlled entry and exit for a larger number of vehicles than the previous structure could accommodate. A particular advantage is the addition of a third exit lane which enables drivers to turn right onto Wade Hampton Boulevard when another driver is waiting for a light to go straight.

In addition, moving the entry point away from Wade Hampton Boulevard will help prevent a backup of cars on the highway and thus create a safer entry to campus.
