University Creed
Christ's Identification
I believe in His identification as the Son of God.
I believe Jesus Christ is the Son of God.
And the angel answered and said unto her, The Holy Ghost shall come upon thee, and the power of the Highest shall overshadow thee: therefore also that holy thing which shall be born of thee shall be called the Son of God. Luke 1:35
And lo a voice from heaven, saying, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased. Matthew 3:17
And I saw, and bare record that this is the Son of God. John 1:34
And Simon Peter answered and said, Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God. And Jesus answered and said unto him, Blessed art thou, Simon Barjona: for flesh and blood hath not revealed [it] unto thee, but my Father which is in heaven. Matthew 16:16-17
We are not children of God naturally, by birth.
That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. Marvel not that I said unto thee, Ye must be born again. John 3:6-7
I know that ye are Abraham's seed; but ye seek to kill me, because my word hath no place in you. . . . Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. John 8:37, 44
We can become children of God by the new birth.
But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name. John 1:12
Yet Christ's Sonship is unique; we are children of God only in a lesser sense.
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. John 3:16
And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth. John 1:14
And we know that the Son of God is come, and hath given us an understanding, that we may know him that is true, and we are in him that is true, even in his Son Jesus Christ. This is the true God, and eternal life. 1 John 5:20
