Alaska Mission Team Week 4 Update
Dear family and friends,
Week 4 has come and gone, and here is a taste of the activities!
The entire Alaska Mission Team was present at Higher Ground Baptist Bible Camp (HGBBC) for the 45 or so junior campers who were in attendance. Team members participated in teaching, counseling, staffing, stretcher (junior staff) program leadership, puppets, games, skits and more. As a result, team members were learning about themselves and ministry. As well, juniors were learning about the Lord.
Mrs. Z served as camp nurse, and Mr. Z balanced his time between HGBBC and Mission Air Care (MAC) Navajo maintenance at nearby Soldotna Airport in anticipation of the Fort Yukon VBS the following week with a portion of the team. The Navajo had been staged near camp after the completion of the Selawik “Camp on Wings” ministry to achieve flight schedule efficiency and related fuel savings between interior ministry weeks, and it was a good time to get routine aircraft maintenance accomplished. The Z’s children were involved with camp as well. Nick was a junior camper and Chris and Rebecca participated in the stretcher program. Actually, Chris and Rebecca functioned in the stretcher program for three weeks learning all about camp staff work with the other stretchers!
The Stretcher program is a terrific addition to camp that gets teens involved with camp staff in a supervised work program that includes its own set of services and meetings. For those teens who get involved it means continued opportunities for spiritual growth, development of character, work skills and social skills after their high school camp week at the beginning of the camp season. For some teens it means four weeks of camp!
Please pray that the camper decisions made this week would be the beginning of a lifestyle of godliness and service to Christ!
For the team,
Mr. Z
