Students | Alumni | Employers

Career Services can be defined by its mission which is to “seek to help students and alumni explore, discover and enter into God’s place of service through career resources, advising and placement assistance.”

Resources from Career Services

As soon as they enter the university, students can receive career aid from the many resources available through the Career Services office and online resources.

  • The office is located in the Student Center, a central campus location and convenient for students.
  • Online resources include many helpful links to job boards, tips and hints, how-to’s and other instructional materials on job-searching, resume writing and more.

Students who are not sure of what major or minor to study can take a test that can identify interests and strengths and help point a student in the right direction.

Dr. Steve Buckley, manager of Career Services, connects students with potential employers and organizes events including job fairs and resume and interview workshops.

“I have benefited (from CareerCentral) by being able to correspond with employers all over the world. I have been able to catch a glimpse of many different ministries through my correspondence with them.”

Women’s Ministries

Career Services connects students, grads and employers through CareerCentral, a website that provides opportunities for student and alumni job seekers to network with interested employers.

Events for Students

In addition to the office and online resources, Career Services organizes several events on campus each year including the BJU Job Fair, the Christian School Recruitment Conference and the Career Fair, giving students and employers opportunities to network, find jobs and find employees.

“Every year we have a number of returning recruiters, and these recruiters are focused on networking with BJU students,” said Dr. Buckley. “This is the optimum opportunity for students to network for employment opportunities.

“After employers consider an individual’s college major, GPA, and experience, they look for the following qualities:

  • communication skills
  • strong work ethics
  • teamwork skills
  • initiative
  • analytical skills
  • computer skills
  • flexibility
  • interpersonal skills
  • problem-solving skills
  • technical skills

“Career Services provided me with tools to help determine my areas of interest as I was deciding on a minor. They also gave me practical advice and were able to answer my specific questions.”

Art Education

Since BJU’s liberal arts education encourages the development of these important skills and character qualities, employers routinely network with students through Student Center interview offices, major on-campus recruiting events and BJU’s CareerCentral online placement service.”

Career Guide

Beginning in the fall semester of 2010, every student is given a Career Guide, a helpful booklet with important resources to help students succeed in college and prepare for entry level employment opportunities upon graduation.

Topics include how to choose a major, a 4-year career action plan and tips on networking, resume writing and job interviewing. It concludes with a helpful section about what to expect during the first year at a new job.

By providing Career Services to students and alumni, BJU complements the quality liberal and Christian arts education with the tools and skills necessary to enter a career.
