Department Holds Annual Programming Contest
On March 15, 2008, twenty-seven undergraduates competed in the department’s annual programming contest. The students had about three hours to solve ten problems posed by the computer science faculty. Jordan Jueckstock, a junior Computer Science major, won the contest, correctly solving nine of the problems, with a partial solution of the tenth. John Sidwell, a junior Computer Science major, also solved nine problems to place a close second; and Mark Ladygo, a sophomore Computer Science major, placed third. Congratulations to these and the other students who participated.

Standings Improve at Regional Programming Contest
On October 13, 2007, BJU sent 4 teams to an intercollegiate computer programming contest sponsored by the Association for Computing Machinery. This regional contest was held jointly at Georgia Southern University, the University of South Alabama, and the Florida Institute of Technology. 76 teams from universities such as Georgia Tech, Clemson, and the University of Florida were represented. The contest consisted of building computer software to solve 10 challenging problems in a 5 hour contest. Our teams ranked 8th, 10th, 22nd, and 34th, which gave us the 4th ranked school. This was a significant improvement over last year’s ranking, in which our strongest team came in 16th. Congratulations to these students.
