  • A prepared song of your choice demonstrating your range (An accompanist is provided.)
  • Sight reading

Bands

Preliminary Ensemble Placement Audition Requirements

  • Chromatic scale, ascending and descending, from the lowest note of the instrument through the top of your range
  • Selected scales from the following: G, C, F, B♭, E♭, A♭, D♭
  • A prepared piece (solo, etude, honor band audition piece, etc.) of your choice. No pianist is needed.
  • Sight reading

Seating Audition Requirements (for seating within ensemble)

Orchestras

Wind, brass, and percussion openings are filled by appointment and audition.

Preliminary Audition Requirements for New Students (for placement in an ensemble)

  • Audition takes place during registration.
  • Students will play a three- or four-octave scale.
    • Violin—any scale in the key of D or higher
    • Viola/Cello—any scale in the key of G or higher
    • Bass—any two- or three-octave scale in the key of A or higher.
  • A prepared piece (solo, etude) of your choice. No pianist is needed.

Seating Audition Requirements (for seating within ensemble)

  • Three- or four-octave scale
    • Violin—any scale in the key of D or higher
    • Viola/Cello—any scale in the key of G or higher
