Preliminary Ensemble Placement Audition Requirements
- Chromatic scale, ascending and descending, from the lowest note of the instrument through the top of your range
- Selected scales from the following: G, C, F, B♭, E♭, A♭, D♭
- A prepared piece (solo, etude, honor band audition piece, etc.) of your choice. No pianist is needed.
- Sight reading
Seating Audition Requirements (for seating within ensemble)
- Chromatic scale, ascending and descending, from the lowest note of the instrument through the top of your range
- Sight reading

Orchestras
Wind, brass, and percussion openings are filled by appointment and audition.
Preliminary Audition Requirements for New Students (for placement in an ensemble)
- Audition takes place during registration.
- Students will play a three- or four-octave scale.
- Violin—any scale in the key of D or higher
- Viola/Cello—any scale in the key of G or higher
- Bass—any two- or three-octave scale in the key of A or higher.
- A prepared piece (solo, etude) of your choice. No pianist is needed.
