About Jim

Dr. Berg has been training biblical counselors for over thirty years—preparing the BJU resident counselors for their ministry to the student body, holding counselor training conferences for pastors, and teaching biblical counseling online and in the classroom at Bob Jones University Seminary. He has published eleven books and workbooks and numerous articles in Christian periodicals that provide biblical help in discipleship and counseling issues.

In 2010 he and his wife started a local church-based addiction ministry Freedom That Lasts® (www.FreedomThatLasts.com) located in his home church, Faith Baptist Church in Taylors, SC.  In addition to the approximately one hundred men and women who attend the weekly meetings, the ministry has helped sixteen other churches start chapters and has opened a residential home for women on the property of the church called Freedom Home for Women. He serves as executive director for the Freedom That Lasts® ministries and is a trustee for the WILDS Christian camp.

Under the direction of his pastor, Dr. John Monroe, Dr. Berg began Faith Counseling Institute (www.fbctaylors.org/institute) to provide biblical counselor training for pastors and laymen. As part of his seminary duties he provides phone support for pastors dealing with difficult counseling situations in their churches. He also continues to counsel students, other university family members, and members of his local church who need biblical help for dealing with life’s challenges.

Jim and his wife, Pat, have three married daughters who are all serving with their husbands in full-time vocational ministry and enjoy their eleven grandchildren. His hobbies include working in the yard, reading, and writing.
