- BS, English, Eastern Illinois University
Mrs. Guthrie is presently in her 48th year of teaching at the university level. Graduating from Eastern Illinois University, she majored in English Education and received her Illinois Teaching Certificate. Her courses have always included English grammar and composition.
Having joined Bob Jones University in 1966, she is fully grounded in the University’s mission and in how it has been expanded and fine-tuned throughout the years. For over 30 summers she worked at the University Day Camp as craft supervisor and overseer of an entire building during BJU HELP conferences. During that time she constructed and wrote the official Day Camp philosophy. She’s also worked at the BJU Press, contributing to the 11th and 12th grade grammar books. In the last 10 years her teaching load has expanded to include “Bridge” students, a program designed to prepare international students to succeed at the college level. In conjunction she’s been an ESL tutor for town residents from China, Korea, and Colombia for several years.
A member of Hampton Park Baptist Church for forty plus years, Mrs. Guthrie taught for many years in the Training Union program and served as secretary for the Ladies’ Missionary Group. She and her husband have originated and direct a youth soccer program, serving over 300 children every spring.
