Jonna Touchton Carper is a 1977 graduate of Bob Jones University where she studied music education. After graduation she taught K-12 music for five years before the Lord led her and her husband, Alan, back to BJU in the fall of 1983. At that time she began working in the Media Center for the School of Education, and God used that time to kindle an interest in classroom technology.
In 1989, Jonna completed requirements for a Master of Librarianship with a Media Specialist emphasis and shortly after became supervisor of the Media Center. In 1996 she began teaching for the School of Education, teaching technology courses at the undergraduate and graduate level. Since that time she has earned a Master of Arts in Education from Virginia Tech, specializing in instructional technology, and in 2009 completed the Copyright Leadership and Management Program from the University of Maryland University College. She continues to supervise Educational Technologies (the former Media Center) and teaches undergraduate courses in the School of Education.
Jonna has judged many K-12 music competitions and has led a variety of technology workshops for K-12 teacher conferences over the years. She is a current member of the International Society for Technology in Education. At BJU Jonna serves on the Copyright Committee, Press Research and Development Team and the Learning Management System Team where she assisted in the selection of the campus LMS and coordinates ongoing training and support for the faculty.
Jonna is married to Alan Carper, who teaches in the School of Business. Together they minister at Community Bible Church of Holly Springs in Inman, South Carolina, where she is the church secretary and takes care of the church website. Jonna enjoys traveling, reading and spending time with her grown children and six grandchildren.
