Radio and Television
Students seeking admission to the Broadcast Management master’s degree program are expected to have prior training or experience in a broadcast-related area. If this is not the case, students are required to take Radio and Television classes at the undergraduate level to make up the deficiency. Specific admission requirements are as follows:
- A minimum of 18 semester hours of acceptable undergraduate credits in radio and television broadcasting, equivalent to those required for the bachelor's degree in Radio and Television Broadcasting at Bob Jones University. A transcript of equivalent classes should be presented with the final grade received:
- Fundamentals of Radio (3 hours)
- Fundamentals of Television (3 hours)
- Basic Announcing (3 hours)
- Audio or Video Equipment Operation (3 hours)
- Sales, Marketing, or Advertising (3 hours)
- News, Writing, or Directing (3 hours)
- A resume which includes related educational and/or professional experience (full-time, part-time or internship).
- An audition CD or tape which adequately displays the applicant’s expertise in broadcast-related production and performance (commercials, PSA’s, news copy, excerpts from on-air programs, video news story reporting, photography/editing, etc.). For each submission you should state how the segment was used and what role you played (e.g., “News Story/Reporter,” or “Pre-Recorded Program/Producer”)
- Three letters of reference from instructors and/or professionals in the field.
- An in-person interview with the Head of the Radio and TV Department to ascertain the student’s familiarity with broadcast equipment and protocols. If unable to visit the campus, interviews may be conducted by telephone.
- The student must present a research paper or project, preferably demonstrating ability in research and knowledge of some aspect of management.
