Aviation – Maintenance School

engine Bob Jones University has trained Aircraft Mechanics (Airframe and Powerplant) since 1980. Upon completion of the required courses in the School of Applied Studies (SAS), our students are prepared to pass the Federal Aviation Administration's oral, practical, and written exams as well as enter the workforce as a trained Christian mechanic. A Federal Aviation Administration Designated Mechanic Examiner is on staff to aid in these goals.

Those seeking to serve the Lord Jesus Christ in the aircraft maintenance field will be pleased with the subjects taught in the SAS Aviation Curriculum. The technical material is combined with biblical instruction resulting in a trained aircraft mechanic who is prepared for the Lord's service either on the mission field or in his chosen career and local church.

While enrolled in the SAS, students are able to participate in the activities of university life at BJU. This exposure to numerous ministry opportunities and the positive aspects of culture matures and rounds the individual as he grows in Christ. Yet, SAS classes generally have fewer students per teacher which gives greater opportunity to receive individual attention. This creates an atmosphere that is the envy of any student.

Technical classes are taught at a spacious hangar at the Greenville Downtown Airport (adjacent to the BJU Flight School). All other classes are taught on the campus of BJU. The BJU maintenance training hangar houses the program's aircraft, parts room, offices, special equipment, shops, tools, and classrooms. Students develop their skills by working on the program's Turbo Aero Commander, Cessna 210C, turbine engines, reciprocating engines, and numerous other training tools. Special pluses for SAS students are the intern programs. After completing one year, students are eligible to work with BJU's Chief of Aircraft Maintenance as he performs inspections and repairs on BJU flight school aircraft. After receiving the mechanic's certificate, the students may take further proficiency intern courses to gain additional experience.

In view of the many advantages of the SAS aviation program, we believe there is no better place for Christian students to be trained in aircraft maintenance, missionary aviation, or business aviation!
