Cosmetology Management
This major will prepare you to become a licensed cosmetologist and can lead to an Associate of Applied Science degree. After gaining appropriate experience, this program will prepare you to excel in your field and eventually manage and own your own shop. You may also be prepared to teach cosmetology. Your training is accomplished through classroom instruction and "on-the-job" training. Our program includes a minimum of 1,500 hours of theory and practical work, as required by the South Carolina State Board of Cosmetology.

Key Courses
Hair Shaping This course will teach you how to shape hair with the use of shears, razors, and clippers. You will learn how to shape the hair to flatter different face shapes, as well as which implements work best with the different hair textures. By second semester of your first year, you will be ready to work on customers during salon time.
Facials and Make-up Here you will study the structure, functions, conditions, etc., of the skin. Along with the principles of makeup application, you will learn how to perform a professional facial.
Hair Coloring In this course you will learn the analysis of hair and the chemistry of color, including temporary, semi-permanent, and permanent colorings, highlighting and foiling, toners, and corrective work.
Chemical Waving and Chemical Relaxing These areas of study will teach you how to alter the amount of curl in the hair by using chemical agents. In Chemical Waving, you will learn the principles of rolling a permanent wave, along with specialty perms, such as spiral and piggyback. In Chemical Relaxing, you will be taught how to reduce excess curl from overly curly hair, and how to give a wave with the desired amount of curl. You will have thorough training in these areas as well as profitable hands-on experience working with clients.
Career Opportunities
The demand for cosmetologists is well known. In addition, graduates in this major may pursue careers as cosmetic buyers or sales representatives, be haircutters for style shows or Christian school productions, and with additional experience and education, become cosmetology teachers, or salon managers.
