Accounting

The Accounting major provides preparation for (1) those who wish to work as accountants with a business or corporation, (2) those who wish to become Certified Public Accountants and work in public accounting, and (3) those who wish to have ministries as accountants or business managers with churches or other Christian organizations. Students who wish to meet the educational requirement to sit for the CPA exam may meet the additional requirements by earning a Master of Science in Accountancy in conjunction with the Bachelor of Science in Accounting or by taking additional undergraduate work.

NOTE: You may obtain both the Bachelor's degree and the Master's degree on an accelerated program in 4 years and four summer schools or in 5 years.

Key Courses

Principles of Accounting This is a course you will use to begin developing your basic accounting skills. You will learn the principles and procedures which will prepare you for an active accounting career.

Intermediate Accounting covers the core topics that every accountant must know to be successful in the accounting profession. This challenging course provides much of the material that you will need to successfully complete one section of the CPA examination.

Auditing gives an overview of the accounting profession and a study of currently existing auditing standards promulgated by the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants.

Financial Statement Analysis emphasizes the use of published financial reports to make decisions about investing or granting credit. The course also covers such topics as market efficiency, asset pricing, and determining the effect of financial reports on market prices.

Introduction to Taxation develops the basic rules for individual taxation including inclusions and exclusions to income, allowed deductions, capital gains, and tax credits. By the end of the course, you will be familiar with standard tax preparation software used to complete complex tax returns.

Career Opportunities

Some of the top four accounting firms in the United States, as well as several regional accounting firms, recruit annually on the campus. Approximately 30 to 50 percent of our accounting graduates accept positions with these companies. Additionally, each year over 60 businesses and 150 Christian Schools/Mission Boards/Christian Organizations recruit our graduates.
