Accounting Internships

Accounting Internships

What is the accounting internship?

The accounting internship is a full-time internship experience giving students the opportunity to work in the accounting/finance arena for an accounting firm or corporation.

When does the internship take place?

Students participate in the internship during the second semester of their junior year. The course schedule is designed to accommodate this opportunity.

How long does the internship last?

The length of the internship experience is approximately seven weeks (half the semester). During the remaining half of the semester, the students take classes on the block. That is, they cover a few semester-long courses in half the time.

Who qualifies to participate?

While the internship is a competitive program, most students who have desired to participate have been accepted. However, the ultimate decision for acceptance into the program rests with the Chairman of the Division of Accounting.

Which firms participate?

The world's largest accounting firms that have Greenville offices have participated in the past. We have had as many as seven placements with these firms. In addition, smaller accounting firms, locally based small businesses, and major corporations participate in the program.

Why should a student be interested in this opportunity?

Experience. Many companies want experience from potential recruits. For college graduates the internship allows them to gain this valuable experience. For the companies involved, they have a chance to examine a potential employee without actually hiring that person on a long-term basis.

How can a student prepare for the internship?

The best way to prepare is to do well in courses during the two and a half years leading to the internship and get involved in leadership opportunities. The top internship positions are assigned to the top students.
