Master of Education in Secondary Education
The Master of Education degree in Secondary Education is designed to prepare teachers, department chairmen, and supervisors for a dynamic ministry in the Christian school. Certification or public school preparation is not a goal for this program. With this degree we are trying to produce thinking teachers knowledgeable in their subject matter area. We want teachers to be able to prepare fresh, original lessons and not be bound to structured teacher's manuals. Your training in this program will equip you to evaluate academic curricula as well as to formulate a strong Christian philosophy of education. This program does not lead to certification.

Key Courses
Counseling Techniques After addressing key issues, such as the ministry of counseling, the role of Scripture in counseling, the qualifications of the counselor, and the Biblical basis of change, this course will provide a step-by-step approach for helping troubled persons in a Scriptural way. You will learn how to deal with the problems which counselees typically face, such as depression, fear, and worry. You will also be taught how to gather data, diagnose problems, and help people to change.
Philosophy of Education provides a comparison of educational philosophies and the influence they hold on educational theory, helping you to develop a Christian philosophy of education. Students have commented that "everyone in education needs to have this course," and it is "fundamental for any Christian whether in the field of education or not."
Foundations of Education develops educational thought and practice, and stresses the implications of historical and philosophical backgrounds of public and private schools.
Research in Education introduces you to in-depth educational research, statistics, and testing. The course content is designed to familiarize you with terminology, basic concepts, and tools necessary to develop a research study. Prospective doctoral candidates will especially benefit from this course with its emphasis on structured research through development of a research prospectus.
Introduction to Exceptional Children In this class you will study the history of and current trends in special education. The exceptionalities of mental retardation, learning disabilities, physical impairments, speech problems, hearing and visual impairments, and giftedness are discussed.
Career Opportunities
You could have as many as three good teaching opportunities to choose from as you look for a place to teach. We receive over three times as many requests for teachers as we have teachers to fill those requests. And, in the future, this ratio is going to increase as we, as a nation, face a national teacher shortage. You will be qualified to help meet this need and train young people both in the states and abroad.
