Key Courses
Performance Major A large portion of your degree will be spent in private study in piano. This will give you the opportunity to master your performance area through intensive one-on-one lessons with a professional teacher.
Advanced Piano Pedagogy This class begins with foundational learning theories and educational psychology applicable to piano pedagogy and also covers developing advanced students, teaching functional skills, and applying music theory to interpretation.
Current Trends in Piano Pedagogy Surveying current philosophy, literature, and conventions related to piano pedagogy, with emphasis on "hands-on" experience in keyboard technology, this course puts current trends of keyboard instruction in historical perspective.
Piano Literature In this class you will survey selected solo works for piano. Special emphasis is placed on analysis, style, and pedagogical considerations.
Internship in Piano Teaching Using the resources of the Elementary, Junior High, and High School piano programs as well as University and community outreach classes, the student has experience in observing and teaching many ages and levels. Special emphasis is given to analysis of videotaped teaching.
Career Opportunities
Our alumni are serving in church music ministries throughout the country. In addition, our graduates are teaching in Christian schools and public schools in every part of the U.S. and are on the faculties of most of the major fundamental Bible colleges and universities. A number of our graduates also have successful careers as private studio teachers.
