“Brethren, pray for us.” (1Thessalonians 5:25)

Dr. Ed DunbarWe recently received a note of encouragement from a faithful friend. This is a friend most of our faculty don’t know, but she has a wonderful ministry to our students and, in turn, to all of us in the Division of Music at Bob Jones University. This friend is pretty much confined to her home because of a debilitating illness, but she is praying for us on a regular basis. Here is part of her note: “I’ve had a ministry to fine arts majors for the last two years…. I check the calendar of events each day and pray for any fine arts majors who are giving recitals. Then I email them and let them know that I prayed. The blessings have been awesome. Second semester of last year, there were more than 100 recitals. By the time the year ended, I was ready for a break. Now I’m eager to get going again.”

With over 100 recitals in one semester, you know this is a busy place! And with that busyness comes a fear that we could become accustomed to doing our work in our own might and under our own power—certainly something we do not want to happen. We are reminded regularly that this work is more important to God than it is to us. I trust that you will pray for us. Pray that we will have opportunities to continually point our students to Christ, and that we will teach for the glory of God and for the edification of the saints.

Psalm 115:1: “Not unto us, O Lord, not unto us, but unto thy name give glory, for thy mercy, and for thy truth’s sake.”
