Dr. Ed Dunbar presented a recital at Trinity Lutheran Church in Greenville as part of its Wednesdays with Bach recital series. He also served on the faculty for the American Guild of Organists Pipe Organ Encounter held in Charlotte, N.C.

Amanda Barrett served as coordinator for Tadeu Coelho’s “Flute—Inspiration and Praise," an intense weeklong masterclass conducted from a Christian perspective. She also attended the Wildacres Flute Retreat with well-known teachers Goran Marcusson and Stephen Preston.

Sue QuindagDr. Sue Quindag was selected to present a workshop titled “Integrating Music and Art: Hearing What You See" at the 28th International Society for Music Education World Conference held in Bologna, Italy.

Joan Pinkston received the 2nd-place award in the published anthems category from the prestigious John Ness Beck Foundation for Lord Jesus, Think on Me.

Dr. Dan Forrest’s work in paradisum… was premiered at the 2008 BJU Commencement Concert. Additionally, Hinshaw Music announced “The Music of Dan Forrest” choral series this past year and has committed to publishing in paradisum… along with another large-scale work, De Profundis. Dan also served as composer-in-residence at Houston Baptist University this past February, a week which culminated in an all-Forrest concert.

Dan TurnerDr. Dan Turner, director of bands, conducted the Illinois Christian All-State Festival hosted by Dave Shaleen at Heritage Baptist Church, Frankfort, Illinois. In April, Dr. Turner was the featured clinician at Lake Orion Baptist School’s Third Annual Michigan Christian School Band Festival, hosted by Jim Watson. In December 2007, the BJU Symphonic Wind Band was honored to perform with internationally renowned flutist Dr. Tadeu Coelho. Dr. Coehlo premiered a newly discovered work for piccolo and band by Frederick Kurth, a late 19th-century flutist and composer in New York. The manuscript was brought to the attention of Mrs. Amanda Barrett of the woodwind department, who organized the reconstruction of the score and parts.

The University Chorale, under the direction of Dr. Warren Cook, was selected to perform at the 2008 Southern Division Convention of the American Choral Directors Association. Their performance, which received great acclaim, included several works by Division of Music colleague Dr. Dan Forrest. In addition, the Chorale’s fall 2007 performance—Forrest Fest, comprised entirely of compositions by Dr. Forrest—was broadcast on South Carolina Public Radio as part of its Carolina Concerts series.

Dr. Michael Moore founded the Greenville Textile Heritage Society Band, recreating textile mill bands from the turn of the 20th century. The band, featuring period instruments and uniforms, received a great deal of community attention and completed a successful first season by performing for the opening of the “Shoeless” Joe Jackson museum in downtown Greenville.

Stan EbyDr. Stan Eby directed the Valor Summer Conservatory, an intensive nine-week music program held at Camp Joy in Whitewater, Wis., for college-age Christian performers. He was joined on the staff by colleagues Duane Ream and Achim and Sharon Gerber. Guest clinicians included pianist Anthony di Bonaventura, violinists David and Linda Cerone, cellist Uri Vardi, and singers Dominique Labelle and Bradley Williams.

Portions of the Foundation Brass February concert were broadcast on South Carolina Public Radio as part of its Carolina Concerts Series. In May, the group completed a ten-day, 14-concert tour of churches and Christian schools in Kansas and Missouri. Several members of the group performed recitals and served on the staff of the Heritage Band and Choral Camp in Frankfort, Ill., in August.
