Jim Brooks Retires

Mr. Brooks came to Bob Jones University in 1972 as art director for BJU Press and its start-up magazine, FAITH for the Family. When BJU stopped publishing FAITH, he became art director for the Creative Services department.

He began teaching Illustration in BJU’s Division of Art in 1976. Other classes taught included Human Anatomy and Drawing & Structural Representation.

His paintings have consistently won awards, including a Best of Show judged by internationally acclaimed artist and ornithologist Roger Tory Peterson. In 1993 Mr. Brooks won the tenth anniversary Wyoming Conservation Stamp Contest. He has participated in national invitational wildlife exhibitions, including the Southeastern Wildlife Exposition, the Easton Waterfowl Festival, Friends of the National Zoo, and the Leigh Yawkey Woodson Art Museum’s Birds in Art Exhibition, recognized as the premier exhibit of avian art.

Mr. Brooks has produced more than 2,500 paintings and illustrations. Fourteen have been reproduced as limited editions. His paintings and prints have been purchased by private collectors throughout the United States, Great Britain and Germany.

The Division of Art is grateful for Mr. Brooks’ years of faithful service and will miss his presence in the classroom.
