Spring 2007
Faculty Travel: John Roberts
On September 28-29, I had the privilege of speaking at the Keystone Christian Education
Association Convention in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, held at the Willow Valley Convention Center
and Hotel. It was a busy two days. I spoke in six workshops on five different topics: Biblical
Choices in Art, Development of Art for the Elementary School, Art Appreciation, Mega Art,
and Draw What You See. What an encouragement it was to have many in attendance at the
workshops. Art is often considered a luxury in Christian schools and, unfortunately, often not
included or perhaps dropped from the curriculum. Design is all around us, and creative thinking
is a vital part of education. The enthusiasm evidenced by the attendees is perhaps an indication
of a better understanding of the importance of teaching art in Christian schools.
