Key Courses
Three-Dimensional Design In this course, you will study three-dimensional form and structure in space. You will have experience using clay and plaster to model and manipulate mass relationships and wire, wood and paper to construct contours in space and experiment with simple engineering principles. You will also work with texture and surface decoration.
Ceramics As a beginning student you will use the potter's wheel to throw basic forms. Emphasis will be on beautiful form both with hand built and thrown objects. Students will mix clays and glazes and have the opportunity to load kilns and fire using reduction, oxidation, and raku techniques.
Fiber Arts Here you will develop the skill and understanding of how to apply the elements of art to papermaking, bookbinding and weaving. Textile surface design will be explored using appliques, stitching, felting, dying and printing.
Career Opportunities
As a graduate from our art program, you will have the opportunity to go on to a career as a studio artist or designer. A student intern position may lead to work in sales gallery work, jewelry fabrication, or museum employment.
