Two-Dimensional Arts

As an Art major, you will be prepared for a career in fine arts and illustration. You will take a core of courses in drawing and design to sharpen your perceptive skills and to lay a solid technical foundation for advanced work. You will then concentrate your study in the areas of drawing, painting and printmaking. Art instruction is given without additional cost above the regular tuition.

Key Courses

Drawing and Structural Representation In this course you will receive studio training in beginning drawing and the graphic representation of three-dimensional forms. A concentrated study of perspective is followed by experience with proportions and form description with light and shade.

Basic Painting Using oil paint you will begin painting the still life with an awareness of light and shadow relationships, the rendering of texture and form, and the study of composition.

Printmaking Various artistic printing techniques are explored. Drawings are executed on lithographic stones and aluminum plates and printed in color and black and white. In this course, you will produce collagraphs, etchings, aquatints, photoengravings, linocuts and silk screen prints.

Career Opportunities

As a graduate from our art program, you will have the opportunity to go on to a career as a studio artist, or as a designer and illustrator in advertising and in the publishing industry. A number of our graduates are working for Christian publication firms and others are in secular positions in commercial illustration and design. A student intern position may lead to work in sales gallery/frame shop or museum employment.
