Interpretative Speech
The Interpretative Speech major is designed to provide broad liberal arts preparation for careers in public relations, communications and ministries using Christian drama. It also is excellent preparation for graduate study if you are planning to eventually teach at the secondary or college level.

Key Courses
Fundamentals of Speech This course will give you the basic principles of public speaking with special emphasis on platform techniques and a study of the different types of speech.
Voice and Diction In this course you will learn the practical application of the physiological backgrounds and diction with a view to improving your speaking voice. You will study the application of phonetics in developing a General American standard of speech.
Oral Interpretation of Poetry This course will expose you to a wide range of poetic forms in performance.
Performance of Narrative and Drama Here you will learn the principles and techniques of character conception and portrayal. You will also study platform presentation of selected scenes.
Staging Literature In this elective course your skills as an adaptor of literature and director will be sharpened through practical experience in staging non-dramatic literature for performance.
Career Opportunities
Graduates from the interpretative speech major often go on to graduate school and enter careers in teaching at the college level. They also have careers in public relations, communications consulting, writing, and radio and television. Graduates of the Division of Speech Communication are found on the faculties of several of the major Fundamental Christian colleges and universities.
