General Expectations
General Expectations
Daily chapel and class attendance is required, as are certain other activities, including weekly society meetings, Sunday morning Sunday school and worship service on campus (for residence hall students not involved in local church ministries), vespers, Concert, Opera & Drama Series, and Bible Conference services.
Students are challenged to develop Christlikeness and biblical discernment in order to experience long-term success. To help disciple each student toward Christlikeness, BJU has established a disciplinary system that promotes growth and seeks to cultivate an edifying campus atmosphere.
So at BJU we commit ourselves to faithfully practice what Christ has commanded (Matt. 28:19). We emphasize several foundational imperatives:
- Love God wholeheartedly
- Love your neighbor as yourself
- Be holy, for God is holy
- Renew your mind
- Assembly together
- Make disciples of Jesus Christ
- Submit to authority
- Exercise stewardship
- Speak truthfully and graciously
- Exercise self-control
- Exhibit modesty
- Abstain from lust and immorality
Dating and Mixed Groups
We want students to have wholesome social opportunities in a setting that provides accountability for biblical requirements of purity. It is with this in mind that we chaperone campus activities where men and women students are present and we require a chaperon when students date or interact in a mixed group off campus.
Work
- Students are to return from work by 10:25 p.m. Sunday through Thursday.
- Students may not serve alcoholic beverages.
- Students may not do house-to-house sales anywhere in the Greenville area. Students offering services to the community must have a retail license or have clearance from the dean of students to do door-to-door solicitation for their services.
