Summer Orientation FAQ

New students (freshman and transfer students) are encouraged to attend one of the Orientations.

While it is not required, Orientation is a means for Bob Jones University to best meet your needs as a new student this year.

Orientation provides opportunities for you to see the campus, meet other new students, schedule your classes, learn about the many opportunities available (society, work, extension, etc.), find out where to go for help, meet with a faculty member, and become familiar with student expectations.

We highly recommend it. We will have special sessions designed to introduce parents and family members to BJU, as well as assist them in preparing for the challenges and changes that come when a son or daughter enters college.

Parents often have many questions regarding their student’s new experiences, and sessions are designed to offer answers in a relaxed, informal atmosphere. While some sessions will be student/parent sessions, other parent sessions will run concurrent to the student sessions.

It is important that parents plan to attend these parents-only sessions so that the students can begin to model their relationships with faculty during their college career. Parents attending similar sessions have found their sessions to be informative and helpful.

Orientation is designed specifically for new students and their parents. Younger children may tire easily and get bored with the process. No special programs, accommodations or meals are provided for siblings.

Yes, Orientation is unique to each student.

BJU is continually improving its programs and services, so it is important to attend Orientation to learn about BJU’s current opportunities, services and polices.

Orientation is also an opportunity to meet other students experiencing the same transition.

Yes, BJU has its own unique mission, academic requirements, policies and student services, and Orientation will help transfer students better understand what BJU has to offer.

In addition to learning about BJU’s resources, transfer students will have an opportunity to review transcript evaluations, meet with a faculty member and register for classes.

Orientation is a two-day program beginning at noon on Friday and ending at noon on Saturday. The program is full of sessions and activities designed to provide new students with information needed to schedule classes, prepare to live on campus (if applicable), and transition to college life. Please make your travel arrangements according to these times.

You and your friend can attend the same Orientation if you both make a reservation for the same dates. Reservations are on a first-come-first-served basis, so we advise early registration.

During Orientation you will meet with an academic advisor to work out your class schedule for the fall semester. The academic advisor is a faculty member who teaches in the division that offers your major.

Yes, there will be time for you to meet with an academic advisor and schedule your classes.

In addition, music majors and minors should plan to take the Music Theory Placement Test.

If you will be a residence student, you should stay in the residence halls. If you live in the Greenville area and will be a commuter student, you are strongly encouraged to stay in the residence halls.

Housing and meals are complimentary. Students who have stayed in the on-campus residence halls for visits have commented on the positive benefits of this experience.

You may make a roommate request during Orientation. Housing assignment information is available during the month of July. Due to the number of students living on campus, we are unable to assign roommates prior to Orientation.
