College Transfer Student FAQ

Each applicant educated in the United States must request that his high school and/or college forward a copy of his official transcript directly to the Director of Admission. Transcripts are not accepted from students.

Applicants educated outside the United States must submit a credential evaluation report from World Education Services (WES).

Initially no. Only grades of C or better are transferred and are not calculated into one’s BJU until all degree requirements have been successfully met. However, when the degree is conferred, all approved transfer work is calculated into the final GPA.

A minimum of 30 hours must be completed in residence as well as meeting all degree requirements.

One’s graduation completion time frame will depend upon how many courses transfer to BJU, major/minor choice, and semester loads. Summer session and distance learning courses are also available for students who desire to complete their degree in a timely manner.

All transfer credits are accepted on a provisional basis, which means that they do not become a part of the student’s permanent record until he has successfully complete one semester of resident study leading toward a degree from BJU. To validate the credit on any transcript, a student is expected to earn the same grades or better in residence at BJU.

Yes. Current students holding a reservation for the fall must complete a Transfer Work Request form with prior approval from the registrar. Additional transfer work is subject to the transfer credit policies.

No. A transfer work evaluation is on all college course work completed. Changing one’s major or minor may impact whether or not transfer courses fulfill these requirements or general electives.

Your transfer work will be evaluated based upon all completed work. Courses relevant to your major choice at BJU will fulfill appropriate degree requirements or general electives.

While every effort is made within the regulations to give the transfer student full value of his previous work, courses not in BJU’s curriculum may be transferred as electives in appropriate subject areas.

Grades of D or F are not transferred; therefore, a transfer student gets a fresh start toward his BJU grade point average. Individuals who performed poorly at their previous college may be accepted on academic probation. Academic probation is to help students by limiting their academic load and their extracurricular activities so that they have time to devote to earning grades that meet or exceed the cumulative 2.0 grade point average requirement.

Compare the courses between institutions, if they are similar in course description and passed with a grade of C or better, they will generally transfer.

All transfer work evaluation requests are processed within 2 to 3 weeks.

A limited amount of credit may be allowed for training programs followed in military service, provided this work is in line with baccalaureate requirements. Any veteran desiring an evaluation of such work must have his official transcript forwarded directly from the proper authorities to the Registrar of BJU.

Credit is allowed on the basis of the recommendation in the manual, A Guide to the Evaluation of Educational Experiences in the Armed Services.

Due to the specific requirements for our degree programs, BJU does not award life experience credit.
