Pillars of Leadership

Character

BJU places the development of Christlike character at the center of its overall mission and at the core of its leadership development efforts.

The Core Values of BJU are fostered as BJU disciples its students to add to their saving faith the essential virtues of a wholehearted dedication to Christlikeness, knowledge, self-control, endurance, godliness, brotherly kindness and love (2 Peter 1:5-7) as the indications of maturing Christlikeness. BJU seeks to create a culture of virtue as faculty, staff, graduate assistants, and student leaders help each student make character connections—biblical applications to his life—that promote growth in Christlikeness.

Competence

BJU promotes the development of three key leadership competencies.

  • Conceptual skills help students see the whole picture of what God is doing in the earth and their part in that mission.
  • Relational/Leadership skills equip them to solve problems and minister to people. These skills will transfer to leadership roles in the family, church and broader world upon graduation.
  • Job skills provide the necessary tools and understanding for students to carry out their campus responsibilities.
