High School Festival & Preaching Conference

General Information

Accommodations

All participants will stay in University residence halls for the entire four-day competition. Because of limited space, we can honor sibling room requests only.

Groups traveling great distances or those who do not wish to travel on Sunday may arrive as early as 6:30 p.m. on Saturday at no additional charge.

Please bring a pillow, linens for a single bed (or sleeping bag), bath linens, soap, umbrella, etc. Please do not bring radios or music players.

Costs

All participants will pay a fee of $70 to cover all festival fees, meals, and lodging from Monday lunch through Friday breakfast. An accompanist fee of $25 per contest accompanied is also required for those requesting this service.

Other prospective students in Grades 9-12 may also stay in the residence halls if attending with a participating group. Non-competing students will pay a fee of $20 to cover meals and lodging from Monday lunch through Friday breakfast.

The sponsor rate for residence hall lodging and meals is $22 per night. Sponsors for groups of two or more (other than relatives) will be our guests for residence hall accommodations and meals, based on the number of high school students in the group. All fees must accompany the registration form.

If your group contains five or more girls or five or more boys, then a sponsor is required to stay in the residence hall with that group of five or more.

Note: We cannot accommodate adults, other than sponsors, in the residence halls.

Refund/Cancellation

Payment (less a $25 processing fee) will be refunded only if cancellation is received in the Guest Services office no later than October 3. There is no refund for cancellations made after this date.

Grooming Guidelines

Young ladies should wear modest-length dresses. Those in the Festival Bands, String Orchestra, Mixed Chorus, and Ladies Chorus should bring a “Sunday” midcalf-length dress or skirt.

Young men should wear long trousers (no jeans) and sport shirts. Their hair should be neat and well-trimmed so that hair is off the collar and the ears are showing. For the preaching contest and the Wednesday and Thursday concerts, young men should wear coats and ties, preferably dark suits or conservative sport outfits. Those planning to participate in art workshops should bring a smock or old shirt and old slacks.

Medical Care

BJU has a medical clinic in case of illness or an accident. A well-equipped hospital is located on the campus. The University, however, is not responsible for any expense incurred because of an injury or illness. Parents must sign the medical release on the reservation form.

Reservations

Send your reservation form and full payment to Guest Services, Bob Jones University, Greenville, SC 29614-0001. Reservations will be accepted beginning August 1 and must be in the Guest Services office no later than October 3, 2008. Medical release forms must be signed in order for registration to be processed.

Each participant and sponsor must complete an individual reservation form. Sponsors for groups (including homeschool groups) should send one check for full payment and all reservation forms for their entire group (including non-competing prospective students) in one envelope.
