Great Awakenings selects new coffee in taste-testing

By Jeremy Patterson

The Snack Shop sponsored a coffee taste-testing for members of the university family last Friday to select a new brand to replace Starbucks.

Mr. Jeff Hagans, the Snack Shop manager, ran the taste-testing and handed out surveys for the participants. The top picks would replace Starbucks in the Great Awakenings Coffee Shop.

The testing featured 11 different coffee companies, each of which supplied anywhere from one to five different coffee flavors. The participants tasted each flavor of all the 11 different brands (a total of 26 different cups of coffee) and then rated the coffees based on aroma, strength and taste.

The 11 companies were Dillano’s (Spill the Beans), Tully’s, Leopard Forest, Dunkin Donuts, Royal Cup (Chick-fil-A), Port City Java, Iron Brew, Citavo, Max Crema’s and Barnie’s.

After all the surveys were turned in, Mr. Hagans said Barnie’s and Leopard Forest won the day, with 18 and 14 first-place votes respectively.
