Extended Itinerary — May 6–11
Depart from New York City (JFK).
After an overnight flight, arrive at Ben Gurion Airport in the afternoon. Visit the city of Joppa to see the harbor and the traditional home of Simon the Tanner. Transfer to our hotel for dinner, a brief organizational meeting and an optional stroll along the Mediterranean Sea (overnight in Netanya).
Visit the first-century ruins at Caesarea—including the theater, Herod’s palace and the aqueduct. Explore the excavations of the Old Testament city of Megiddo and then drive to Nazareth, the hometown of Jesus, for a fascinating tour through Nazareth Village, a re-creation of life in biblical times. Enjoy the view of Mount Tabor and the Jezreel Valley from the Mount of Precipitation and continue to Tiberias, our home base for the next few days (overnight in Tiberias).
Embark on a morning boat ride across the Sea of Galilee and examine the first-century “Jesus Boat” at Nof Ginosar. Proceed to Capernaum, the center of Christ’s ministry, to see the synagogue and ruins of ancient houses. Travel south to Beth Shean to visit one of the most extensive archaeological sites in Israel. Finish the day with a breathtaking panoramic view of the Sea of Galilee from the Arbel Cliffs (overnight in Tiberias).
Travel north through the Hula Valley to the beautiful Dan Nature Preserve. Explore the excavations at the city of Dan, including the high place where Jeroboam set up the golden calf. At Caesarea Philippi visit the site where Peter made his great confession of Christ. View majestic Mt. Hermon and Nimrod’s Fortress, and then return on the ancient Damascus Road along the Golan Heights (overnight in Tiberias).
Travel south through the Jordan Valley to visit the recently opened Baptismal Site at the Jordan River near Jericho, and then proceed to Qumran to examine the excavations of the Essene community and view the Dead Sea Scroll caves. Stop at Engedi to view the oasis where David hid from King Saul. Continue south to our hotel to enjoy a relaxing opportunity to float in the buoyant mineral waters of the Dead Sea (overnight at the Dead Sea).
