Cost:

$175 (for day camp; includes lunch)
$275 (for out-of-town overnight 7th & 8th graders*)

Band: Grades 6-8*
String Orchestra: Grades 5-8*
Piano: Grades 5-8*

Minimum 1 year of experience required. A limited number of certain instruments are available for rental for $10 for the week (no fee for use of percussion instruments).

Junior Music Camp is an exciting, fast-moving week filled with singing, large group performance, daily competitions and recreational activities—all under the direction of BJU’s top-notch music faculty, professionals who have dedicated their lives to helping young people develop their musical abilities.

Band and String Orchestra

  • Participate in sight-reading auditions on Monday for chair placement in large ensembles
  • Be challenged in sectional and ensemble rehearsals
  • Learn through musical games and special activities
  • Participate in a final concert
  • Sing in the camp choir

Piano

  • Private instruction and group lessons
  • Develop skills through built-in practice time
  • Attend a variety of piano and basic musicianship classes
  • Participate in handbell ensembles
  • Participate in final recitals
  • Sing in the camp choir

Music

All campers should bring both classical and sacred music they are currently working on for study in lessons and performance in recitals.

Schedule

Camp begins on Monday and runs from 8 a.m. to 4:45 p.m. daily. The week concludes on Friday with piano recitals at 2:30 p.m. and an all-camp concert at 4 p.m.

7th- and 8th-grade campers from out of town who are staying in the residence halls may be picked up either after the concert on Friday (preferred) or on Saturday before noon.
