Special Collections
The library’s oldest, rarest, and most fragile books are housed in the Special Collections Room on the second floor of the library. Among these rare books is an 11 ft. Hebrew Manuscript from 1410, a hand-written sermon outline from Charles Spurgeon, and a 13th century hand-written book in Latin. The collection also contains the Greenville Mountaineer, one of the earliest newspapers from the local community. Copies date from 1826-1853.
American Hymnody Collection
Special Collections has been the home to the American Hymnody Collection for the past ten years. This collection traces the development of hymnbooks in the U.S. from 1739 to the early 20th century. The majority of the over 800 volumes in the collection are from the 1800’s and span all denominations.
