The Christian Periodical Index is a bibliographic citation index produced and owned by the Association of Christian Librarians. The statistical highlights of the report provide a quantitative description of the current American education scene. Clearly, from the large number of participants, the number of years that people spend in school, and the large sums expended by educational institutions, it is evident that education is a high priority for the American people. Assessment data indicate that there have been improvements in mathematics and science performance of 17-year-olds between 1990 and 1999. A high proportion of high school graduates is going on to college. Yet, wide variations in student proficiency from state to state and mediocre mathematics scores of American students in international assessments pose challenges.

The database features more than 1,600,000 records with subject headings from a 15,600 term sociological thesaurus designed by subject experts and expert lexicographers. SocINDEX with Full Text contains full text for 253 "core" coverage journals dating back to 1895, and 72 "priority" coverage journals. This database also includes full text for 547 books and monographs, and full text for 6,711 conference papers.

In addition to the databases listed above, STN (Scientific and Technical Information Network), the DIALOG databases, and the OCLC database are available for mediated searches. Please contact Mr. Joe Allen to set up an appointment. The librarian will search the database with patron input. There are charges for search time and citations downloaded and printed.
