6 Basic Steps of Searching Lexis-Nexis Academic Universe
- Open Lexis-Nexis Academic Universe
- Navigate to the Library's web page on the Internet. This page is
the default home page on the Internet workstations in the Library.
www.bju.edu/resources/library - You will find Lexis-Nexis listed under Databases, both in the Subject listing (under News, for example) and in the Alphabetical List.
- Click on Lexis-Nexis Academic Universe.
- Select a database to search
- Lexis-Nexis has several databases to search.
- Each database is divided further into smaller search databases. Choose a category that matches your topic.
- Create your search
- Use Basic Search for a quick search, or choose More Options for a detailed search screen.
- Enter your search terms, choose a source to search, select a time (anytime, today, week, month, etc.), and click SEARCH.
- View your results list and choose articles that look useful
- To look at an actual article, click on the blue hyperlink that serves as the article's title.
- To quickly scan several articles, use "KWIC" view.
- Printing articles
- To print an article, click on "Print/Save Options" in the dark blue bar at the top of the window. Then click "Display."
- At this point, you will use the PRINT button of your web browser to print the article.
- To get back to your document list, click the BACK button.
- Getting help Anytime you need help, click on the word "Help" in the light blue bar at the top of the window. And, of course, you may always ask the reference worker on duty at the Information Desk for assistance.
