The Proficiency-Based Foreign Language Classroom: What does it look like?

Over the past thirty years second language acquisition (SLA) researchers have studied a multiplicity of factors affecting the various means by which students develop a solid proficiency in a second language and have developed a system by which to measure and describe the different proficiency levels. This workshop will present an overview of the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages (ACTFL) proficiency guidelines and discuss strategies to help focus your foreign language class on proficiency outcomes.
