BJU sports information director named

Jonny Gamet

To support its entry into intercollegiate sports this fall, Bob Jones University recently named Jonny Gamet as the university’s first sports information director.

“The role of the sports information director is to promote the philosophy and mission of the athletic department, while reporting the activities of its coaches and student athletes,” says BJU athletic director Neal Ring.

A BJU graduate, Gamet has a range of experience in the public relations field. As a graduate assistant, he served as WBJU station manager and oversaw staff as well as broadcasting and advertising. More recently, he worked as a correspondent and columnist for a Colorado-based sports website, marketing representative and producer for ESPN Radio, and producer for Yahoo Sports Radio.

Gamet brings additional business insight having worked locally as a business development professional and operations manager for a small business. His duties included sales, marketing, networking, event planning and media relations.

“Jonny’s journalistic experience and understanding of our mission make him a great fit for us,” says Coach Ring. “He also has local and regional sports marketing experience that will aid in the promotion of our department to potential sponsors.”

Beginning June 4, Gamet’s responsibilities will include maintaining the university’s athletics website and social media, facilitating media coverage of athletic events and athletics department marketing.
