BJU Names VP for Advancement and Alumni Relations

(Dec. 7, 2012, Greenville, S.C.) . . . Dr. Stephen Jones, president of Bob Jones University, today announced the appointment of John D. Matthews as Vice President for Advancement and Alumni Relations. According to Dr. Jones, Mr. Matthews will be responsible for further developing and strengthening relationships with university alumni and other constituents.

Dr. Jones described Mr. Matthews as “a proven relationship builder,” saying that he has credibility across multiple generations of constituents and already has built many strong relationships. “A third generation BJU employee, Mr. Matthews lives BJU’s mission and knows well BJU’s heritage, organization and constituency,” said Dr. Jones. “I could not be more pleased that he has agreed to fill this position.”

Both the Advancement Office and the Alumni Association will report to Mr. Matthews in his new role.

“I believe this new position is the place where I can make the highest and best contribution to BJU at this time in our history,” Mr. Matthews said, “and my heart is engaged to do this.”

A CPA, Mr. Matthews holds a BS in accounting from Bob Jones University and a MBA from Clemson University. Prior to this appointment, he was BJU’s Vice President for Finance/Chief Financial Officer, a position he will retain until a new CFO is named.
