Round Rock, TX (North Austin) — Church Planting

This area covers approximately 12 x 13 miles north of downtown Austin toward (and including) Round Rock.

The 2000 Census showed a total population of about 272,000 people. This area has experienced almost unbelievable growth for over 30 years. In 1970, the population was just over 23,000. Growth is still expected at a healthy 20-30% per decade. In 2000 the area was 23% Hispanic, 10% Black, and 6% Asian. In 1990, 38% of the population was 25 or under.

The 1990 Census showed that employment was largely in the areas of manufacturing (esp. technology), retail trades, and education. Austin is home to the University of Texas–Austin, which provides many of the education jobs. Major employers include Dell, IBM, and Motorola.

In 1990 the median home price was $75,000. There were about 30,000 housing units (not counting apartments). Average rent was $501. The average home was built in 1981. There was an average of 2.46 people per household. These figures may have changed considerably since 1990.

In 1990, 34% of the population had undergraduate or graduate degrees.

According to the current directories there are probably 35 Southern Baptist churches in the area, and 1 BBF church. Catholicism also has a strong presence in the area.
