Southwest Las Vegas, NV — Church Planting

This area covers approximately 9 x 9 miles west of the famous Las Vegas "strip."

The 2000 Census showed a total population of about 201,000 people. This area has boasted an average growth rate of over 100% per decade for the last 30 years. While this growth must slow down, it is still expected to grow at a healthy 20-30% per decade. In 2000 the area was 19% Hispanic, 6% Black, and 9% Asian. In 1990, 32% of the population was 25 or under.

As would be expected in a gambling town, the 1990 Census showed that employment was largely in the areas of personal services (hotels, etc.), retail trades, and entertainment services.

In 1990 the median home price was $119,000. There were about 24,000 housing units (not counting apartments). Average rent was $648. The average home was built in 1980. There was an average of 2.42 people per household. These figures have probably changed considerably since 1990.

In 1990, 18% of the population had undergraduate or graduate degrees.

According to the current directories there are probably 6 Southern Baptist churches in the area. The Mormon church claims many adherents in this area.
