Howell Memorial Planetarium
The Howell Memorial Planetarium exists to demonstrate God's sovereign power and His unapproachable
intelligence and creativity. Recently renovated, it is used for classes and public programs. The Spitz Model
A2 Star Projector replicates the night sky across a nine-meter (30 ft) dome, and multiple slide and
special-effects projectors complete a multimedia tour of the Universe.
The Planetarium is located on the second floor of the Science Building on campus (Building #27 on the campus map), and contains seating for roughly 50 adults. All shows are free of charge. Shows last approximately 45 minutes. Children attending should be at least six years old.
Plan a Visit
During the school year, the planetarium is open to the public on designated Sundays at 2 p.m. (see schedule below). Additionally, the planetarium is available during the week for school groups and other private groups.
Beginning this fall, three shows will be available:
- “The Universe We Call Home” is a multimedia presentation overviewing the universe, constellations, and the planets. This show is appropriate for all ages.
- “The Pluto Puzzle” answers the question “What really happened to Pluto?”, and along the way teaches how to spot planets among the stars. This show is best suited for 5th grade and up.
- “Journey to the Moon” tells the story of the Apollo missions and the race to put man on the moon. This show is best suited for Jr. High ages and up.
