Sunshine on the Soapsuds

with Beneth Peters Jones

Mrs. Beneth Jones The Bible says, “Every wise woman buildeth her house; but the foolish plucketh it down with her hands” (Proverbs 14:1). Each day, Beneth Peters Jones shares with you spiritual helps for building rather than battering your home.

Beneth is the wife of Dr. Bob Jones III, chancellor of Bob Jones University. In her own right Beneth is in demand as a speaker at Christian women's conferences and retreats, with a busy schedule of appearances at meetings across the country. She has written popular women's books, available from the Bob Jones University Press, including:

  • Beauty and the Best, a practical book on Christian helps and etiquette.
  • Mount Up on Wounded Wings, offering biblical counsel to women who have suffered mental or physical abuse.
  • Ribbing Him Rightly, discussing the art of Christian wifehood and how to make life on the homefront easier.
  • Talk to Me, Lady!, a guide for preparing the Christian woman to speak in front of an audience.
  • With Heart and Hand (with Bobbie Yearick), written for married and single women in full-time Christian service.
  • Sunshine on the Soapsuds and More Sunshine on the Soapsuds, collections of her devotions for homemakers.

Beneth’s speaking and writing ministries show a special burden for the spiritual needs of Christian women. Here’s how Beneth explains what ultimately led her into radio ministry:

“How does a Christian homemaker get herself into a daily radio program? Well, in my case, it has been through a combination of circumstances, opportunities, and the Lord’s leading. Although my greatest delight and concentration are centered in husband, children and home, the Lord has given opportunity along the way to go as a special speaker to Christian women’s groups around the country. From the start, every such trip brought me home with a greater burden for the special spiritual needs of born-again housewives. Then, having given that burden, God soon gave an opportunity to do something about it through writing a monthly column for Faith for the Family magazine. Eventually, the manager of a local Christian radio station suggested that the columns, called ‘Sunshine on the Soapsuds,’ could be translated into a daily radio program.”

“Sunshine on the Soapsuds” is a program in which one homemaker simply talks to those listening about the privileges, problems, and pressures which are peculiar to our daily lives. The messages are characterized by common sense, optimism, frankness, practicality and balance—all leading to spiritual application and biblical truth.
