Developing Christlike character is at the heart of BJU’s mission. Our goal is to help strengthen your faith in the absolute truth of God’s Word through a Bible-based curriculum, chapel, discipleship and mentoring. BJU teaches every subject from a comprehensive biblical worldview. We’re committed to defending and teaching the inerrancy of Scripture and applying biblical truth to every arena of life—from science and history to relationships and daily living.
Beyond the Classroom
But developing Christlike character at BJU goes beyond the classroom to your everyday interactions and relationships with fellow students and faculty members. Life on BJU’s campus is designed to bolster your walk with Christ. Positive, “iron-sharpening-iron” friendships that you build with other students will strengthen you in your faith for years to come. Student leaders in your residence hall, society and other student organizations are there to challenge you to grow in Christlikeness and may even play a mentoring role in your life.
We draw our emphases for developing Christlikeness from 2 Peter 1:5-11, where Peter gives an inspired list of virtues that represent mature Christlikeness—the character which God honors with an abundant entrance into the everlasting kingdom and which provides fruitfulness and stability for you as a believer.

Character & Leadership
As an underclassman, you’ll focus on developing character and establishing integrity—knowing and choosing what is right in every area of life. As an upperclassman, you’ll focus on developing your leadership and exercising influence—challenging others to know and choose what is right.
Local Churches
BJU is surrounded by a large number of Bible-believing local churches. Find one early on, and become a part of a local ministry by teaching Sunday school, helping with the nursery, getting involved in Bible clubs, ministering through music, or being a greeter or an usher.
What you do in your Christian walk should lead you to grow to be like Christ Himself. Loving God. Bold in the Word. Compassionate. Humble. Serving others. This process will take a lifetime, and it’s our desire that through your experiences here—the people you interact with, the biblical principles you make your own, and the things you learn in and outside of the classroom—you will leave prepared and encouraged to follow Christ’s example.
Live for Christ
At the end of the day, living for Christ is what really matters, regardless of what you do or where you live. Our emphasis is on the growth of the whole person—your intellect, your spiritual walk, your character and even your horizons. You’ll be stretched and challenged to discover your full potential as a unique creation of God.
