History

  • The residence halls for women are named for:
    • Nell Sunday: Named in honor of Mrs. Billy Sunday
    • Margaret Mack: Named for good friend of the school in the early years
    • Georgia Creel: Named in honor of Dr. Bob Jones Sr.’s mother
    • Estelle Siddons: Named for Mrs. Bob Jones Sr.’s mother
    • Mary Gaston: Named for Mrs. Bob Jones Sr.; houses cosmetology lab
  • The men’s residence halls are named for:
    • Bibb Graves: Board member, friend of Dr. Bob Sr., and former governor of Alabama
    • Ernest Reveal: Former board member and founder of Rescue Mission, Evansville, Ind.
    • Charles Brokenshire: Former dean of the School of Religion
    • J.Y. Smith: Christian businessman and former board member
    • R.K. Johnson: Longtime business manager of BJU
