Education & Background

He holds a BS degree in management science from Lehigh University in Bethlehem, Pa. He has also received postcollege training in logistics and supply management, total quality management, lean manufacturing, and communications. He completed the Liberal Arts Leadership program at Furman University.

Mr. Apelian was raised in Bucks County, Pa., where his family had an importing business. He attended public schools and began working after his father died in 1965.

After graduating from Lehigh University, he went on active duty in the Marine Corps where he served in the Sixth Fleet during the Iranian hostage crisis. He left active duty in 1981 as a captain and joined the American Olean Tile Company where he began a career in manufacturing.

Before assuming his present position, Mr. Apelian served as director of the BJU Press for five years and as director of publishing and marketing for BJU for two years.

Family

He and his wife, Bobbie, have two daughters and one grandchild. Mr. Apelian serves as a deacon at Cornerstone Baptist Church, where he and Bobbie are members.
