Alan J. Carper, MBA
Executive Vice President, Chief Operations Officer
Alan Joseph Carper serves as the executive vice president and chief operations officer for Bob Jones University. Prior to his serving in this capacity, he served 20 years as a professor of Business Administration at BJU and was also the faculty advisor to the University Business Association during most of that time.
Education
Mr. Carper was awarded a bachelor’s degree in business from Bob Jones University in 1977 and an MBA in 1984 from the McColl School of Business at Queens University in Charlotte, N.C.
Work Experience
After receiving his undergraduate degree, he served as a sales development manager at Clark Equipment Company in Chicago, Ill., and later as a commercial banker for First Citizens Bank in North Carolina.
Mr. Carper authored Economics For Christian Schools, a senior-level high school introductory economics text for the BJU Press. He also helped found and served as secretary/ treasurer of Frontline Missions International, a nonprofit organization with the mission of supporting indigenous Christian churches and ministries in the nations of Eastern Europe and Asia.
As a commander in the supply corps of the United States Navy Reserve, Mr. Carper was mobilized for Operation Iraqi Freedom from January 2003 through January 2005 to serve as the commanding officer for the Navy's Mobilization Processing Site in Norfolk, Va. As a result of his military service, he has received the Meritorious Service, Navy Commendation, Joint Service Achievement and Navy Achievement Medals. Mr. Carper retired from the Navy Reserve in July 2009.
Family
Alan and his wife, Jonna, are very active in their local church where Alan serves as a deacon in charge of finance. They have 3 married children and 3 grandchildren.
