John David Matthews, M.B.A.
Vice President for Finance, Chief Financial Officer
Mr. John Matthews loves the daily opportunity he has to promote the Word of God by helping Bob Jones University manage its finances. But even more than that, he enjoys the direct ministry he has in the lives of students, parents, faculty and staff as he helps them grapple with financial trials. “My burden is to help people who are simply leaning on facts about Christ to cultivate a vibrant personal relationship with Him instead,” says Mr. Matthews, who learned the difference just after earning his undergrad degree from BJU in 1989. “I want to help them deal with discouragement and find lasting peace and satisfaction.”
Mr. Matthews has fully dedicated his financial wisdom and abilities to God. Beyond serving full-time at BJU, he is a board member at Gospel Fellowship Association and secretary and/or treasurer for organizations such as the World Congress of Fundamentalism, BJU Museum & Gallery, Inc. and WMUU, a local Christian radio station founded by Bob Jones University.
Mr. Matthews earned his master’s degree in business administration from Clemson University in 1996, is a licensed certified public accountant, and worked at Ernst & Young for 2 years. He and his wife, Erin, met when they were on faculty and were married in 1994. They have 2 children.
