Alan Lohr has been an adjunct member of the faculty at Bob Jones University since 1989 and has also work as a staff member at the Bob Jones University Press (SoundForth) until 2012. As the director of the handbell choirs at the University, Mr. Lohr has been active as a clinician and adjudicator for various national and state competitions. He has also taught at many conference utilizing the music notation program, Finale, to students and music directors. Mr. Lohr is also the keyboard and handbell editor for SoundForth , a division of the Lorenz Corporation, a music publishing company based in Dayton, Ohio.
Mr. Lohr earned his undergraduate degree in Music Education from Bob Jones University and his MA in Sacred Music from Bob Jones University. He has studied handbells with Don Allured at the Hartt School of Music. He is a member of the Handbell Musicians of America.
He is a member of the Greenville Band, a community organization for those who love playing in a musical ensemble. He is the current and founding director of Carolina Bronze, a community handbell choir. Mr. Lohr also directs the handbell choir at Calvary Baptist Church in Simpsonville and is member of the church orchestra. His wife, Nancy, is the acquisitions editor for JourneyForth, a division of Bob Jones University Press. They have one married daughter and three grandchildren. In his spare time, he enjoys gardening, running, and travel.
In his teaching, Mr. Lohr likes to keep Psalm 150 in mind by letting everything praise the Lord.
