Behavior De-escalation: What’s A Teacher to Do?

Speaker:
Mrs. Christina Miller

Subject:
Classroom Management

Description:
Students who lack appropriate coping skills while facing fear and/or anxiety in the classroom will often act out with behavior that exhibits a flight, fight, or freeze response. In these situations, a teacher’s approach is crucial to avoid escalating the student’s response unnecessarily. In this workshop, Mrs. Miller will discuss things teachers should avoid when dealing with students who continually exhibit problematic behaviors in the classroom, as well as strategies to employ in helping to de-escalate a student’s intensifying negative responses.
