Our Promise to You

We prepare each student to Pursue a Higher Calling—anchored in truth, mentored in wisdom and strengthened in faith.

Calling vs. Higher Calling

While the world defines calling as achievement, talent, or ambition, a higher calling is rooted in God's truth, revealed in His Word, and lived out in love for God and others in obedience to Christ. Through academic rigor, spiritual formation, and personal mentorship, we help each student become who God is calling them to be—for His glory and eternal purpose.

BJU Promise Attributes

Anchored in Truth

We are unwavering in our biblical foundation. Truth is not shaped by culture; it is unchanging and shapes everything we do from academics to discipleship.

Mentored in Wisdom

We believe formation happens through relationship. Faculty and staff invest personally, modeling what it means to live, lead, and think with Christlike discernment.

Strengthened in Faith

We don't assume a deep faith; we cultivate it. Through intentional discipleship and gospel-centered community, students learn to trust God deeply, stand firm in truth, and live boldly for Christ in every calling.

Excellence for Eternal Impact

Academic rigor here is rooted in something higher. We teach every discipline through a biblical lens—calling students to think deeply, lead faithfully, and glorify God with their gifts.

Discipled by Design

We deliver more than degrees; we develop disciples. Through truth, mentorship, and spiritual formation, students become who God created them to be—in character, conviction, and calling.

Driven by Purpose

We prepare students for more than a career; we prepare them for a calling. Rooted in conviction and equipped with clarity, they step into a world that needs their courage and Christ-centered leadership.

I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.

Higher Calling Stories

Dr. Michael Moore

Dean, School of Fine Arts and Communication

“When a student comes to me with questions about calling, I love pointing them to Ephesians 2:10. Each of us is a unique product of God's artistry, his poiema—the word from which we get the English word poem. As we align our hearts, minds, and bodies with the Artist's design for our lives, we discover who we are becoming in Christ and the good works He's planned for us to accomplish. Each of us is truly a poem with a purpose!”

Rachel Dahlhausen

Student Care Office, Biblical Counselor

“Students often come to my counseling office struggling with identity and insecurities. Instead of trying to help them find purpose in themselves, I point them to God and His higher calling of them to know and love Him and to be conformed to His image. As they grow in the knowledge of God and their awe of Him, they grow in believing His purpose for them! They begin to see themselves through God's eyes and find humble confidence in who God made them to be.”

Dr. Ted Miller

Division of Biblical Studies and Theology

“In Ideas and Their Consequences, each student learns to address ideas that have influenced the world from a perspective shaped ultimately by God’s Word. This education equips the student to serve as a soldier and ambassador for the Lord Jesus Christ and His Kingdom before a watching world. ”

Linda Abrams

Division of History, Government and Social Science

“If there is any area that needs Christians to be ‘salt and light,’ it is the world of politics and government. There are many career paths for a political science major but what they all require is a firm grounding in the Word of God. The belief that man is made in the image of God and that all life is sacred is foundational to good government. At BJU we won’t tell you what to think but rather teach you how to critically think through the issues of the day using Scripture as the guidepost. Kingdom work is everyone’s responsibility.”
