About

Dr. Carruthers has 38 years of experience in Christian education ranging from the traditional K-12 Christian school to providing leadership as dean of the School of Education & Human Services at Bob Jones University. Dr. Carruthers, a native Canadian, has held positions as teacher and administrator at two Christian schools, one in Florida and one in North Carolina, before returning to Bob Jones University in 2004 as a faculty member and later as the Director of Clinical Practice in the School of Education & Human Services. He was appointed dean of the School of Education & Human Services in 2009 and also serves as the chair, Division of Adult & Graduate Studies. Dr. Carruthers holds an undergraduate degree in biology education and a master’s degree in educational administration from Bob Jones University. His doctorate in school leadership is from Nova Southeastern University in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.

Dr. Carruthers’ passion is to see young people come to BJU and successfully prepare for God’s calling in their life. As an online facilitator, Dr. Carruthers works with adult learners who are pursuing graduate certificates and degrees. Dr. Carruthers also has been active in providing assistance to national and international K-12 Christian schools by coordinating professional development workshops to help strengthen these ministries.

Dr. Carruthers is active in the higher educational landscape in the state of South Carolina. He is a member of the South Carolina Education Dean’s Alliance as well as participates in other State Department of Education events. Dr. Carruthers has a passion for his personal professional development by attending numerous annual conferences in education and accreditation. Dr. Carruthers and his wife Ann have three daughters and three granddaughters and attend Calvary Baptist Church in Simpsonville, South Carolina.
